Biography
Helen Branswell covers infectious diseases and global health at STAT, an online news publication focused on health, medicine, and scientific discovery. She came to STAT from The Canadian Press, where she was the national news agency’s medical reporter from 2000 to 2015. Branswell has reported on a string of global health outbreaks: SARS; H5N1 bird flu; the 2009 H1N1 flu pandemic; Ebola; Middle East respiratory syndrome (MERS) and zika. Branswell spent the summer of 2004 embedded at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention as a CDC Knight Fellow. She was a 2011 Nieman Global Health Fellow at Harvard, where her work focused on polio eradication.
