Biography
Based in Nairobi, Kenya, Christabel Ligami reports on gender, human rights, science/health, development, environment, climate change, culture, regional integration issues and business in Africa. Her work has been broadly published in the EastAfrican Newspaper, Equal Times magazine, Africa Business magazine, ScienceAfrica, SciDev.net, University World News and Renewable Energy World. She has a bachelor’s degree in biochemistry/chemistry and an M.A. in communications studies. Ligami is a 2016 winner of the International Women Media Foundation grant (IWMF) for the inaugural reporting grants to amplify women’s voices in the news media and a three times East African award winner of the Best Science/Health Reporter of the Year 2013, Best Business Reporter of the Year 2014 and Best Financial Reporter of the Year 2014. She was previously a permanent employee for the EastAfrican Newspaper, Nation Media Group, where she covered issues in the five East African countries Kenya, Rwanda, Uganda, Burundi and Tanzania.
