Estrella Burgos

Estrella Burgos is a science writer and editor based in Mexico City. Since 1998, she has served as editor-in-chief of the monthly science magazine for adolescents and young adults, ¿Cómo ves? (www.comoves.unam.mx), published by the National Autonomous University of Mexico’s Department of Science Communication. She has worked there for over 20 years as an editor, writer, and radio and television presenter as well as scriptwriter. She has authored five science books for young readers and co-authored another six, as well as co-authored seven elementary and high school science textbooks. She has also freelanced for several Mexican newspapers and magazines, covering a variety of science topics. Ms. Burgos is former president (2007-2009) of the Mexican Association of Communication of Science and Technology (www.somedicyt.org), where she now coordinates the Division of Science Journalism, and a member of the U.S. National Association of Science Writers (NASW) since 2008. In 2013, the NASW granted her the Laura Van Dam Fellowship. She also teaches courses on science journalism and workshops for scientists. She has been a guest speaker in numerous national and international conferences of science communication and science journalism, and is a Civitella Ranieri Fellow (www.civitella.org).
