Pallab Ghosh

Pallab Ghosh reports on developments in research across all platforms. He has won several awards including the Press Gazette Science Journalist of the Year, which is the UK equivalent of a Pulitzer Prize. He is a passionate advocate of critical, investigative reporting. In a world where so much well-funded science propaganda is produced by so many vested interests to suit their own agendas, journalism is needed more than ever to help people make informed choices about their lives and how science shapes the world around them. He is Honorary President of the Association of British Science Writers and a former President of the World Federation of Science Journalists. In these roles, he has promoted the idea that society and scientific endeavor are best served if science journalists question research results, challenge arguments made by individual scientists and government departments, and scrutinize the scientific spin put forward by funding agencies, big business and campaign groups. Pallab works with the ABSW to promote the highest standards of journalism and to help its members develop their skills to the highest possible levels. His favorite sayings include “News is something somewhere wants to suppress, all the rest is advertising” by Lord Northcliffe, a19th-century British newspaper proprietor. And “It is better to fail aiming high than to succeed aiming low. And we of Spurs have set our sights very high, so high in fact that even failure will have an echo of glory,” by Sir Bill Nicolson, manager of Tottenham Hotspur Football Club 1958-1974.
