Fueling the Innovation Ecosystem

At Johnson & Johnson, we have a vision for a world without disease. Advances in science and technology offer unprecedented opportunities to innovate and improve health and wellbeing for people everywhere in the world.

science at Johnson & Johnson

At Johnson & Johnson, we believe the most important contribution we can make to the dynamic challenges we face is innovation in products, services, solutions and in everything we do.

We believe a great idea can come from anywhere, and the convergence of diverse opinions, approaches and skill sets is essential to solving today’s health challenges such as cancer, diabetes, Alzheimer’s, HIV, Ebola and Zika.

That is why, every day, we work to identify and fuel life science and technology innovation wherever it exists—through our internal research and development, our Johnson & Johnson Innovation business model that includes regional innovation centers, our no-strings-attached JLABS incubators, our venture investing arm JJDC and our later-stage business development groups. Together, we work to harness the best ideas and look beyond treatment to prevent and intercept illnesses before they ever occur.

In San Francisco, a foremost innovation hotspot and site of the 2017 World Conference of Science Journalists, we have a 30,000-square-foot JLABS @ South San Francisco and also operate a satellite JLABS in collaboration with the California Institute for Quantitative Biosciences (QB3), called JLABS @ QB3, in the hip SF Dogpatch neighborhood. Around the world, our JLABS sites provide early-stage companies with many of the advantages of being at a big company, yet with complete entrepreneurial freedom to focus on innovation.

Supporting Science Education and Engagement

Scientist Mentoring & Diversity Program

We proudly support programs that foster diversity within the sciences at Johnson & Johnson and across the global scientific community. Through the Scientist Mentoring & Diversity Program, an innovative initiative that pairs postgraduate students with industry mentors, we’ve helped to further the career development of talented scholars from underrepresented backgrounds in the biotech and medtech fields.”

Johnson & Johnson Innovation also believes that a society educated and passionate about science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) can help solve the world’s toughest challenges. Science journalists and communicators play critical roles in bringing those ideas to life, inspiring innovation and collaboration, and encouraging engagement with science and health in new ways.

Johnson & Johnson is proud to foster training, mentoring and career enhancement for science journalists, young scientists, medical professionals and entrepreneurs through partners such as the World Conference of Science Journalists and STEM-focused education programs that help to:
