Enrique Bustamante Martinez

Enrique Bustamante Martinez is the director of the Fundación Ealy Ortiz A.C., a nonprofit organization responsible for the social and philanthropic agenda of the president of the board of directors of EL UNIVERSAL, Mexico’s largest daily newspaper. Through the organization he develops programs focused on superior professional education and training.

He serves as national and international director of the Jack F Ealy Science Journalism Workshop and, since 2004, has conducted 33 workshops, granting 1,500 scholarships to journalists from Latin America and the Caribbean. The four editions of the workshop–the Latin American Edition, Mexico Edition, UNAM Edition and Spain Edition–have hosted 350 international experts, including Nobel Prize holders, university rectors, researchers, entrepreneurs, politicians, astronauts and scientists.

Bustamante serves as president of the Mexican Academy of Communications and has been a lecturer in Mexico, Canada, the United States and Spain on subjects related to communications. He is co-producer and broadcaster of the program “Enrique Bustamante and the Mexican Academy of the Communications,” which is broadcast every Saturday on the Mexico City radio station Grupo ACIR.

He is director of the post-graduate degree program on digital journalism offered jointly by the Monterrey Institute of Technology and Higher Education and EL UNIVERSAL.

Bustamante is general coordinator of the National Oratory and Public Debate Contest of EL UNIVERSAL and he created and coordinates the Advanced Workshops in Oratory of EL UNIVERSAL, and the workshops of the National Forum of Reflection and Ideas (Foratoria – Forum Oratory).

He holds a bachelor’s degree in communications from Universidad Anáhuac. During his professional career, Bustamante has worked at several companies in the communications industry such as TELEVISA, Publicidad Arellano Ted Bates, and the communication department of the Office of the President of Mexico. In 1987, he founded a publishing company responsible for the production of local magazines in Mexico City.

Bustamante joined EL UNIVERSAL in 1990 as editor and since then has held several positions in the areas of editorial office, Internet, public relations and the CEO’s Office.
