W. Wayt Gibbs is a freelance science writer based in Seattle who has written for Science, Nature, Scientific American, WIRED, Discover, and IEEE Spectrum, among others. He is a contributing editor at Scientific American, where he was a staff editor and senior writer from 1992 to 2006. Since 2006 he has worked at Intellectual Ventures as executive editor and editorial director. Gibbs was the editor in chief of the books Modernist Cuisine and Modernist Cuisine at Home. He is a board member of the Northwest Science Writers Association.
