Biography

Miyoko O. Watanabe joined the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) in 2014. In addition to being a deputy executive director, she is director-general of JST’s Center for Science Communication and director of the Office for Diversity and Inclusion. She is also vice president of the Science Council of Japan and a member of the Specialist Committee on Formulating the Fourth Basic Plan for Gender Equality, Council for Gender Equality, Cabinet Office of Japan. She has a long history of research in semiconductor physics at Toshiba R&D Center in Japan. There, her positions included that of executive quality leader in the Innovation Division at Toshiba headquarters. She has chaired both Science Agora and Gender Summit 10. She is a member of the Science Council of Japan (SCJ), chair of the Committee on Comprehensive and Synthetic Engineering in SCJ, and a member of the Specialist Committee on Gender Equality in the Council for Gender Equality of the Japanese Cabinet Office.
