Biography

Miyoko O. Watanabe joined the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) in 2014. In addition to being a deputy executive director, she is director-general of JST’s Center for Science Communication and director of the Office for Diversity and Inclusion. She is also vice president of the Science Council of Japan and a member of the Specialist Committee on Formulating the Fourth Basic Plan for Gender Equality, Council for Gender Equality, Cabinet Office of Japan. She has a long history of research in semiconductor physics at Toshiba R&D Center in Japan. There, her positions included that of executive quality leader in the Innovation Division at Toshiba headquarters. She has chaired both Science Agora and Gender Summit 10.
