WCSJ2017 Wants Your Science Session Ideas

You’re submitting your proposals for sessions about science journalism issues, challenges and skills—thank you! Now the WCSJ2017 organizers also want your input to help us plan a spectacular program of science briefings.

At the conference, international scientists will provide updates and background on important research. We want you to go home with fresh story ideas you can use.

To plan well, we need to know: What science issues and topics are especially important to your audiences? What scientists would you like to hear from?

Anyone can propose a science session or speaker for this first “international edition” of New Horizons in Science, the program of briefings organized by the Council for the Advancement of Science Writing. WCSJ2017 will also include press conferences to provide interview opportunities and background on new results.

As needed, the conference will fund travel for these speakers. Additional travel support may be available for session moderators, but in most cases CASW will organize science sessions.

There are three ways to send your suggestions:

  1. Submit a science program proposal through the submission system by October 11, using the WCSJ2017 online submission form. Please include the words SCIENCE SESSION in the title of your submission.
  2. Send a note to Rosalind Reid, CASW Executive Director, with thoughts and suggestions of science speakers and topics. Ros would like to hear from you by October 20, 2016.
  3. Tell the advisory committee what science is important to your audience by participating in this quick survey.

The WCSJ2017 Science Program Advisory Committee thanks you for your input!
